The Coolalinga Central subdivision was undertaken by Gwelo and caters for the rapidly expanding population in this semi-rural area. The works were conducted in stages, with the earthmoving and civil works completed in 2013.
The area, which was once a paddock with a Stock Feed, fertiliser and pesticide merchant, and a mechanical workshop, is now a fully functioning shopping precinct with fast-food outlets and large commercial businesses. The area also houses 80 residential lots.
From the ‘Greenfield’ site, Combined Electrical undertook the complete scope of electrical subdivisional works. This included High Voltage cable reticulation and the package substations supply and installation, Low Voltage reticulation and distribution, as well as the area street-lighting to supply energy efficient LED fittings.
The package substations were the first Power and Water Corporation (PWC) Mark II package substations installed in the Darwin region. This accommodated appropriate power point of supply with sufficient capacity to meet the overall maximum power demand figure for the proposed development. There was strong interest from PWC technical staff in understanding and assisting with the installation methodology. All parties were pleased with the outcome.
The newly installed substations support all commercial lots, and the 80 residential lots which include house lots, duplex blocks, and larger blocks with unit developments. These were the first stage of works Combined Electrical contributed to on the Coolalinga site and were quite substantial and multifaceted.
In the next stage Gwelo constructed 2 large multi-storey apartment developments. Combined Electrical undertook the electrical and communication installation for these. A further component of this stage was the electrical installation and fit-out of additional large commercial businesses. These works excluded the internal installation of fast-food premises.
The success of the project can be attributed to the multi-skilled Combined Electrical team, and the inclusion of knowledgeable permanent staff working on either job.
